The
U9MD2 Ajax Pickering Raiders are excited to announce that we will take part in
Backpacks for Mental Health initiative through the
Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation this holiday season.
Every year Lakeridge Health compiles a yearly Christmas Wishlist, to which the foundation helps to support. The U9 MD2 team will be helping support the foundation by purchasing items that will be delivered in backpacks to patients in hospital who are effected by issues of mental health on Christmas Eve. Many of these patients also deal with unstable or temporary living situations, and so spreading some festive cheer can be very much needed and impactful.
The players families will be donating money to purchase items for the backpacks, while the players themselves will be working together to select which items to include, assembling the backpacks, as well as writing individualized cards to the patients receiving them.
We hope these small expressions of love and support can help make a difference in the patients lives, as well as demonstrate to our young players the importance of community, team work, and empathy for others.
