AJAX PICKERING RAIDERS – OHF FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT F.A.Q

What is the OHF Open Borders/Freedom of Movement?
On December 17th, 2024, the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) released a publication announcing that there will be open borders across Ontario at the U10 age group and above, for all levels of Minor Hockey, effective for the 2025–2026 hockey season. The recent policy update outlined by the OHF is hoping to enhance the participant’s experience and program accessibility, with the aim to update current policies and create a structure that better serves players and families across the province. Beginning in the 2025–2026 season, OHF Minor Hockey Players in the U10 age group and above will have the opportunity to participate with the Association of their choice regardless of Category (AAA, AA, A, BB, B etc.).

Does an APR resident need to attend Representative Evaluations with Ajax Pickering first?
No. If the Ajax Pickering Raiders is a players home center, players are no longer required to attend APR Representative Evaluations prior to attending evaluations at another center.

Does an APR resident/player need a release from the APMHA to attend Representative Evaluations at another center?
No. The open borders/freedom of movement policy, outlined by the OHF, mandates that a “release” is NOT required for players to attend Representative Evaluations at another center. Players can choose to attend Rep Evaluations with any Minor Hockey Association, within the OHF, at any level.

Are players from other centers permitted to play Representative Hockey in Ajax/Pickering?
Yes! The APMHA is excited to fully embrace this change, with forward-thinking vision and investment in future seasons ahead. Our teams have achieved remarkable success on the ice, highlighting our elite coaching and high talent and passion of our players; the APMHA is committed to ice competitive teams at all levels and divisions.

Can a player attend Representative Evaluations at multiple centers, at the same time?
Yes. Players can attend as many Representative Evaluations, with different centers, as they choose. Once a commitment is made to a specific center/team, this cannot be withdrawn, and players are not eligible to skate at any other Representative Evaluations.

When do Representative Evaluations start?
As per OMHA guidelines, AAA Evaluations can begin on Saturday April 19th (U10-U13) and Monday April 21st (U14-U18). Further information regarding evaluations, along with start dates and schedules, will be posted on our website as that information becomes available.

We are lucky to have a community that offers unwavering support to our Association, players and AP Raiders families. With support from the City of Pickering and Town of Ajax, as well as the many local businesses who graciously choose to sponsor and support our programs, we provide an unmatched experience of playing hockey here.
