AP RAIDERS U14 A (26/27) - COACH PROFILE & TEAM INFORMATION
HEAD COACH - TED STEWART
I am a parent head coach with almost a decade of coaching experience within the Raiders program, including previous years as head coach before stepping away last year. That time away provided valuable perspective and reinforced the importance of structure, consistency, and clear expectations at this stage of development. I am excited to return and lead the U14 A team with a renewed focus on competitiveness, development, and team identity.
In addition to hockey, I have coached across multiple sports including lacrosse and baseball. I am also actively involved in the minor sport community and serve on the Board of Directors for the West Durham Minor Lacrosse Association. These experiences have shaped my belief in fair process, long-term development, and putting the team ahead of individual agendas.
Outside of sport, I work in senior leadership, managing large teams and complex organizations. Building high-performing teams, setting standards, and developing people are central to my professional role and influence how I approach coaching.
About My Coaching Team
My coaching staff will consist primarily of parent coaches who bring a mix of hockey experience, coaching backgrounds, and a shared commitment to doing what is best for the team.
Roles and responsibilities within the staff will be clearly defined, with an emphasis on consistent messaging, accountability, and player development. As a group, there will be clear alignment on expectations and a commitment to providing a structured, positive environment that supports both individual growth and team success.
My Program
My program is designed to balance competition and development, with a strong focus on habits that translate to long-term success, particularly as players transition into contact hockey at the U14 level.
On-ice development will emphasize effort and compete level, team structure and puck support, decision making under pressure, and individual skill development within a team framework.
The program will also include video sessions to reinforce learning and hockey IQ, along with dryland training focused on athleticism, strength, and overall fitness.
Off the ice, we will place importance on preparation, accountability, communication, and emotional maturity. The objective is steady improvement throughout the season, ensuring players are prepared for the increased pace, physicality, and expectations of U14 hockey.
Competitive Teams
The teams I have coached have consistently been competitive within their divisions, regularly finishing near the top of league standings. Past teams have also achieved tournament success, including a tournament championship, while demonstrating clear growth over the course of the season.
More importantly, players have left these programs better prepared for the next level as teammates, competitors, and individuals.
Ice Times & Tournaments
Our program benefits from consistent, predictable ice times throughout the season. Teams receive a strong allocation of ice, largely during prime and family-friendly hours, with schedules generally fixed to specific days and times to eliminate week-to-week uncertainty.
With access to multiple facilities and ice surfaces, the Association can support team practices and games in a way that provides flexibility while maintaining consistency for families.
We will participate in four tournaments during the season, including 1-2 that will require a hotel stay, providing additional competitive experience while being mindful of family commitments.
Association
APR is a great place to play.
The APMHA is supported by a dedicated Board of Directors and Executive group, along with a full administrative staff that supports families, players, and coaches throughout the season. The Association provides a stable, well-run environment with consistent backing for its teams, making it an excellent place for players to develop, compete, and grow within the game.
