Head Coach – Tyler Gubb

I was born in Markham and developed as a player in the Markham Waxers and Markham Majors AAA programs. I went on to play four seasons of junior hockey, competing in the OJHL with the Stouffville Spirit and in the BCHL with the Victoria Grizzlies and Salmon Arm Silverbacks, before completing my playing career in the NCAA at Michigan Tech University and the University of St. Thomas. During my time at St. Thomas, I was part of captaining a Conference Championship team and earned two individual All-Conference awards.

Following my playing career, I spent a season coaching at the University of St. Thomas, before returning to the GTA. Since then, my focus has been on coaching and developing youth hockey programs across the Durham Region. I currently serve as Head Coach of the Durham Mustangs 2017 Tier 1 team.

The past two seasons with the Mustangs have been incredibly rewarding, and I take great pride in supporting the growth and development of our players. I look forward to bringing that same commitment and passion to the Ajax Pickering Raiders organization.

My Program

My coaching philosophy is built around culture, development, and communication. I strive to create a fun, safe, and positive environment while consistently challenging players to reach their full potential. I am excited to bring a competitive, development-focused on-ice program to the organization and the U10 AAA team.

I have regularly worked with top on-ice development programs in the Durham Region, including DHD and Perfect Skating, and plan to deliver a program shaped by both my playing experience and the strong development environments I’ve been part of.

Off the ice, the program will include dryland training led by experienced, sport-specific trainers, as well as video analysis to support visual learning through positive coaching and feedback.

Coaching Experience

  • Assistant Coach, University of St. Thomas (NCAA)
  • Head Coach, Durham Mustangs (2017 Tier 1) – 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 Seasons, Klever Super League

Ice Times

The Ajax Pickering Raiders association operates across three facilities with nine ice pads, providing access to over 120 hours of ice. This allows our coaches the flexibility to run a top-tier development program. Ice times are generally fixed and scheduled during prime hours, making it easier for families to plan and commit.

Association

The Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey Association (APMHA) is supported by a dedicated Board of Directors and Executive team made up entirely of non-parent members, eliminating any perceived conflicts of interest. Their commitment to the association is driven solely by the success of its players and teams. A full administrative staff is in place to support families throughout the season, and the APMHA provides consistent, unwavering support for its coaches, players, and AP Raiders families.
