Player Assessment Weekend (Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey)

PrintPlayer Assessment Weekend

House League Player Assessment (previously evaluations) skates are open to all players registered in the APMHA House League and are practice skates before the season begins. Assessment skates are split into groups for each division. Please attend the appropriate group for your division - this is important for ice capacities and our evaluators. Player Assessments are crucial for making our House League teams as fair and balanced as possible at the start of the season and it is important that all House League players make their best effort to attend. The Ajax Pickering Minor Hockey Association (APMHA) has always strived to provide fair and equal evaluation for all participants using our own volunteers. The evaluation process is constantly being refined and updated based on feedback from the players, parents and the association’s volunteers. Player's are expected to attend the skates on BOTH Saturday and Sunday.

Player Assessments are crucial for making our House League teams as fair and balanced as possible at the start of the season and it is important that all House League players make their best effort to attend both Saturday and Sunday Evaluations. The APMHA reserves the right to balance teams at any time during the season.

Important Notes:

  • All players should attend all player assessment sessions that apply to their age level and group (schedule coming soon).
  • Players cannot enter the ice surface unless fully dressed in proper hockey gear. Part of the required equipment includes a CSA approved helmet with full facial protection, neck guard and a mouth guard. To view a list of required equipment, use the following link: ajaxpickeringminorhockey.com/Public/Documents/Required_Equipment_List.pdf
  • Players should arrive at least 15 minutes before each designated player assessment session to allow time for check-in and for dressing/skate tying.  Due to limited changing room space, players are advised that arriving wearing most of their equipment (everything except skates) could prove beneficial. Check in tables will be set up in the lobby of the arena and players MUST check in prior to stepping on the ice.
  • Players MUST bring a hockey jersey and hockey socks to wear during the assessment skates.
  • Also ensure you bring a WATER BOTTLE with your name on it to rehydrate.
  • On-Ice Coaches may choose to execute different drills for the different time slot within an age group that are believed applicable with the participant’s experience; each player assessment skate may be different and include different drills. After the player assessments have concluded, volunteer coaches participate in a House League Draft and team composition takes place.
  • Player Assessments constitute a major effort to create fair and balances teams at the start of the season. The volunteers do a very good job identifying and placing players during the team composition. Players will be notified what team they are on AFTER the House League draft.
  • Please ensure you notify APMHA Administrative Staff (click here to send us an email) if your player will be absent from both of the player assessments on Saturday and Sunday. Absence from both sessions makes it very difficult to determine placement on a balanced team.
